Session Twelev “Circular Economy”
Circular Economy : Concepts and Opportunities
As part of the comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), the twelfth session was held on the evening of Monday, July 8th, titled “Circular Economy.” The session featured the Regional Director of TSIC, consultant Salama Al-Khatib, who discussed the concept of the circular economy and its importance in creating an environmentally friendly economic system.
Consultant Al-Khatib, an advisor to global organizations in sustainable business and social innovation, addressed several key points regarding the circular economy. He highlighted its definition and the importance of focusing on it both regionally and globally due to the solutions it offers for environmental issues facing the world. He also discussed the sustainable economic opportunities created by the circular economy and presented practical examples of its application in various countries.
According to Al-Khatib, the circular economy is defined as “rebuilding the economic system to tackle the persistent challenges facing our world—such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and desertification—through a fundamental change in the prevailing economic activities represented by the linear model (extract-manufacture-dispose), transitioning to a sustainable circular model that mirrors the cosmic and natural systems created by Allah and operates according to the laws of the universe.”
The session, conducted via Zoom and lasting two hours, was enriched by numerous discussions and contributions from participants. For many, it served as an introduction to the concept of the circular economy, highlighting the lack of attention to this important field from Arab universities, academic institutions, environmental organizations, and the media.
The comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), launched by the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development in partnership with Jerash University, the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development, and the Aman Initiative in Jordan, is the first training program of its kind in the Arab arena.
